What is post-herpetic neuralgia?

Postherpetic neuralgia is a common type of neuralgia, mainly referring to pain that remains after the herpes zoster rash has healed. This pain has the typical characteristics of neuralgia, such as pins and needles, fire, cuts, and electric shocks, and is episodic and intense, affecting the patient’s life and work. Studies have shown that the older the patient with shingles, the higher the percentage of neuralgia that remains after the rash has healed and the longer it lasts. Shingles is supposed to occur in older people with low resistance, so that, moreover, it causes great pain to elderly patients. This pain is now treatable and with the right treatment, the vast majority of the population can be freed from this pain. The treatment currently promoted is mainly medication, including pregabalin, gabapentin, etc. And, our department is currently carrying out clinical drug observation of the self-funded drug Pregabalin, which provides a good option for the majority of patients with refractory neuralgia.
