How to treat genital herpes virus

The genital herpes virus is herpes simplex virus type 2, and its treatment is divided into primary, recurrent, and frequent episodes. For the first episode, patients are usually treated with acyclovir, valacyclovir, or famciclovir orally for a course of 7-10 days. After one course of treatment, the patient’s blisters will slowly decrease and the pain will slowly disappear. For patients with recurrent genital herpes, intermittent therapy can be used, using the same medications as the last time, usually in a course of 5 days, but it is best to start treatment before the onset of prodromal symptoms or blisters, especially if treatment is started within 24 hours. Many patients have frequent episodes, even more than 6 times a year. For such patients, continuous suppressive therapy can be used, which generally requires continuous oral antiviral medication for 6-12 months.
