The sprain can be treated with Yunnan Baiyao aerosol on the day of the sprain. If available, ice packs can be applied 24 h after the sprain, using an ice-water mixture to apply a cold compress to the local swelling and painful injury, and then the injured limb can be sprayed with Yunnan Baiyao aerosol and the injured limb should be locally braked and elevated. When spraying Yunnan Baiyao aerosol, observe the injured area to see if there is any skin breakdown or bleeding. If there is skin breakdown, bleeding, or infection, do not use Yunnan Baiyao. Ask the patient if he or she is allergic to alcohol or the ingredients of Yunnan Baiyao, and if he or she is allergic, he or she should not use Yunnan Baiyao aerosol. If, after spraying, the patient’s symptoms do not improve significantly, he or she needs to be seen by a hospital for an ancillary examination to rule out a fracture.
