Antipyretic drugs need to be transformed and metabolized by the liver into physiologically active components, thus playing a role in regulating body temperature by the thermoregulatory center. Two months baby’s liver and kidney function development is not sound and immature, the accumulation of drugs easily lead to liver and kidney injury, even irreversible tissue degeneration and necrosis. Therefore, in principle, it is not recommended to use antipyretic drugs for infants under 2 months of age.
When the two-month-old baby fever can be used hot towels on the forehead of children, warm baths, reduce the wearing of clothing, antipyretic patches, antipyretic blankets, fans and reduce the room temperature, etc., through conduction, convection and evaporation to take away the body’s heat, so that the baby fever feel comfortable. At the same time, the baby needs to be given the right amount of water to avoid causing dehydration.
However, when the baby is uncomfortable and depressed due to fever and is obviously not feeling well, antipyretic drugs such as ibuprofen can be given under doctor’s supervision, with an interval of at least 6 hours between two doses.
Treating the cause of the fever is also important for temperature recovery. For bacterial infections, cefixime, ceftriaxone and other drugs are needed to fight infection; for immune diseases such as Kawasaki disease, injectable immunoglobulin, aspirin and other drugs are needed for treatment.
There are many other causes of fever in babies, and it is recommended to consult a doctor in time to be evaluated and treated by a specialist. All of the above medications should be used under a doctor’s supervision, avoiding self-medication.
