What is the pain in the face?

Pain in the face can be caused by the following: 1. Trigeminal neuralgia. A nerve from the back of the ear pulls into the face, causing discharge-like pain throughout the face. The pain occurs irregularly, but when it does, it is intense and is not accompanied by redness or swelling of the face. 2. It may be caused by infection of the soft tissues around the face. For example, inflammation of the gums, sores on the face, and sebaceous cysts may cause localized redness, swelling, heat, and pain; 3. There are obvious redness, swelling, heat and pain in the parotid gland, usually caused by viral infection; 4. It is usually an upper respiratory tract infection, such as acute pharyngitis, acute tonsillitis, or acute bronchitis that affects the lymph nodes in the lower jaw, causing them to swell and cause pain in the face.
