After ankle fracture surgery, it takes at least 3 months to be able to walk normally, but it must be decided according to the degree of injury of the joint fracture and the patient’s later functional recovery. If the patient is a normal adult with good physical condition and adequate nutrition, usually 6-8 weeks after the surgery, the bone scabs can be seen to grow and the patient can start to walk on the ground and other functional exercises, and if the functional exercises are active, the patient can walk for 1.5 months to fully recover the function and walk normally. However, if the ankle injury is very serious and the swelling of the whole ankle joint is difficult to go down in the later stage, and the joint is relatively stiff, or if the middle-aged and elderly people are not very active in functional exercise after walking on the ground, the normal walking time may be extended, and it may take about 2-3 months. If there is a comminuted fracture of the ankle joint and a joint fusion of the foot and ankle is done, it is usually difficult to restore normal walking function at a later stage in this case.
