A child’s visual acuity of 0.8 depends on the child’s refraction to determine whether glasses are needed. If the child’s refraction is mildly farsighted or has a small degree of astigmatism after the optometry, it is possible to wear glasses with or without glasses. Because the child’s vision fluctuates, perhaps from 0.8 to 1.0, it is possible to go without glasses in this range. If the child’s refraction is nearsighted or highly farsighted, glasses are required. If the child is farsighted with internal strabismus or nearsighted with exotropia, glasses should be worn according to the prescription and worn around the clock, except for washing the face, bathing and sleeping.
