Back pain, in the vast majority of cases, is not caused by stones. Stones tend to occur in two locations, the first being gallbladder stones and the second being urinary stones. Pain due to gallbladder stones can radiate to the right shoulder and back and does not cause low back pain. Urinary stones can indeed cause low back pain, but they represent a very small percentage of the diseases that cause low back pain, no more than five percent. There are 70 to 80 diseases that cause low back pain, and even the common ones that cause low back pain are 20 to 30, and stones are only one of the relatively low incidence. The back pain caused by stones is in the area where the kidney and ureter walk, the pain area of lumbar muscle strain is relatively medial, and the pain caused by lumbar disc herniation or ligamentitis is above the spine, mostly in the middle.
