In women with mycosis, if the mycobacterial growth in the vagina is not particularly severe, it may heal on its own without any treatment because the vagina itself is self-cleaning. In most women with mycosis vaginalis, it is difficult to heal on its own without treatment, and the mycobacteria can grow in large numbers, causing leucorrhea like bean curd and itching, and may even cause congestion and swelling of the vulva. For women who are tested for mycosis, symptomatic treatment should be given to cure mycosis whether they have sex or not. However, for women who are not sexually active, the treatment takes longer and is not easily cured because they cannot be treated with topical vaginal medication, which can cause recurrent episodes of mycosis fungoides and vulvar itching.
