Generally, you don’t need to take progesterone with a progesterone shot, both have the same ingredients. The main ingredient in both progesterone shots and progesterone capsules or tablets is progesterone, so they work in the same way. Progesterone is used in cases of irregular menstruation, prolonged periods and pre-miscarriage. The dosage varies according to different needs and should be taken according to the doctor’s instruction. Do not increase the dosage or the type of medication arbitrarily, otherwise the treatment may be delayed. If menopause occurs, intramuscular progesterone injection can be given for 3 days-5 days, so as to cause retreating bleeding of the uterine lining, which in turn can achieve the purpose of establishing an artificial cycle; if prolonged menstruation occurs, progesterone can be used for 5 days-10 days, so as to cause the uterine lining to change from proliferative to secretory phase, which can achieve the purpose of stopping the bleeding; if the fetus is preserved, the application of progesterone can be complied with. Generally progesterone injection and oral progesterone do not need to be used at the same time, it is recommended that when irregular menstruation, prolonged menstruation or preeclampsia occurs, progesterone should be used under the guidance of a doctor to avoid overdose.
