The syndactyly is a moderate surgery because it involves some skin, muscle strength and so on, but in general the incision is not so big, if it involves the syndactyly of several fingers, the surgery will be more complicated. In the past, when we did the syndactyly, we needed to implant the skin to achieve the surgical purpose, the problem is that the implant will lead to scarring in the donor area, hyperpigmentation and sensory loss in the recipient area, and there is a certain risk of implant necrosis, which is also more painful for the child. Now we use the artificial dermis-induced no-implantation technique, which does not require skin grafting and will not leave scars on other parts of the child’s body. With regular dressing changes and post-surgical rehabilitation, the child’s fingers will improve in function and appearance, and the scars will be relatively small.
