There is no optimal treatment for children with strabismus and amblyopia. Children with strabismus and amblyopia are usually referred to as strabismic amblyopia, and children can be treated with masking therapy, prescription glasses, or surgical treatment as prescribed by the doctor to promote recovery.
Children with amblyopia can be treated with masking therapy, i.e., masking the dominant eye to stimulate the development of the amblyopic eye, thus improving vision. Amblyopic children also need amblyopia training, such as stringing beads and tracing books, to promote recovery.
Children also need to undergo strabismus treatment. In the case of non-adjustable strabismus, patients can undergo strabismus corrective surgery, such as medial rectus muscle reduction. In the case of accommodative strabismus, the child can wear glasses to correct the refractive error so as to balance the eye position.
It is recommended that children with strabismic amblyopia should be seen in a hospital in time to have their condition evaluated and treated according to the doctor’s instructions.
