Hau Pu is bitter and pungent in flavor, warm in nature and belongs to the spleen, lung, stomach and large intestine meridians; Chen Pi is pungent and bitter in flavor, warm in nature and belongs to the spleen and lung meridians, and both belong to the Chinese herbal medicine. Usually, Hau Pu with Chen Pi can dry dampness and clear turbidity, and move qi to remove fullness, thus it can treat dampness obstruction and qi stagnation, which can be seen in epigastric and abdominal plumpness (stomach distension and discomfort), qi disorder, and inability to think of food. In addition, Hau Pu with Chen Pi also has the effect of lowering qi and calming asthma, so it can treat phlegm and turbidity obstructing the lungs, coughing and chest tightness. The efficacy and effects of Hau Pu with Chen Pi are documented in books such as Taiping Huimin Hejian Bufang (太平惠民和剂局方).
