Constipation can be treated or relieved by dietary and lifestyle adjustments, medication such as lactulose and bifidobacteria, and surgical treatment.
1. Adjust diet and lifestyle: Eat more crude fiber food, avoid too fine diet and drink more water. It is also helpful to exercise regularly and establish a regular bowel movement schedule. Don’t ignore the urge to have a bowel movement as this may cause the intestinal mucosa to lose its stress response.
2. Medication: Laxatives, stimulants, microecological agents and other medications can be used. Laxatives include cathartics, bisacodyl, lactulose, liquid paraffin, etc. There are many different types of laxatives that are used in different situations. Prokinetic drugs increase intestinal motility, such as mosapride, itopride, and prucalopride. Microecological agents, mainly probiotics such as bifidobacteria, are used to supplement treatment.
3. Surgery: In serious cases, if the first two methods of treatment are not effective, you can choose different surgical treatment programs according to the different types of constipation.
All of the above medications should be used under the guidance of a doctor, avoid self-medication, so as to avoid adverse consequences.
