There are several things to keep in mind with liver ultrasound. First of all, the examination should be performed on an empty stomach in the morning, and the patient should be allowed to lie flat on the examination bed, fully exposing the right upper abdomen. When examining the liver, if the left lobe of the liver does not show clearly, you can let the patient drink water appropriately. If the right lobe of the liver is not clear, the patient can be asked to take the left side lying position, and then carry out the examination. When examining the liver, focus on observing whether the envelope of the liver is intact and smooth, and whether the parenchymal echoes of the liver are fine and uniform. Then observe whether the distribution of bile ducts in the liver is normal, whether the luminal diameters of the three hepatic veins and the portal vein are normal, and whether there are tumor thrombi in the veins. If diffuse thickening of the liver parenchyma is observed, the patient is advised to undergo liver function tests. If nodules are observed in the liver parenchyma and there is a high suspicion that the nodules are malignant tumors, the patient is advised to undergo further investigations, such as CT, to determine the nature of the nodules, so as not to delay the patient’s treatment.
