If the foreskin is not open, it is called phimosis, which can be observed on its own or treated surgically according to the specific situation.
If a male infant or young child has a foreskin that doesn’t open, it is mostly physiologic, and can gradually disappear as he grows older. If there is no adhesion of the foreskin or glans penis, there is no need for special treatment and close observation is sufficient.
If the foreskin is still not open after growth and development, circumcision can be performed to remove the excess foreskin from the penis to expose the head of the penis.
The foreskin does not hold open may lead to the retention of foreskin scales, which may easily induce circumcision and glans dermatitis. Patients are advised to clean the foreskin scales regularly and go to the hospital for treatment by professional doctors.
