The treatment of eye strabismus caused by hyperthyroidism mainly includes active treatment of the primary disease, local treatment of the eye with drugs, radiation and surgery. The extraocular myopathy caused by hyperthyroidism leads to eye movement disorder, thus causing strabismus, so the first step in the treatment should be active treatment of hyperthyroidism. In the early stage of the lesion, patients can follow the doctor’s instructions for local intraorbital injection of trimethoprim or oral prednisolone and other glucocorticosteroid drugs to reduce the inflammation or edema of the eye as much as possible, so as to alleviate strabismus. In patients where medication is ineffective or contraindicated, iodine radiation therapy may be used to relieve the swelling of the eye. If the patient’s strabismus is large and the effect of medication or radiation therapy is not satisfactory, the patient may undergo surgical treatment, such as strabismus correction. It is recommended that patients with hyperthyroidism consult a doctor to evaluate their condition and follow the doctor’s instructions.
