Metronidazole is used to treat vaginal trichomoniasis, intestinal and extraintestinal amebiasis, and anaerobic infections.
Metronidazole is an anti-anaerobic and anti-trichomonas agent and is commonly used in suppositories, capsules, tablets, lotions, creams, and injections. It is mainly used for the treatment of guinea worm infections, vaginal trichomoniasis, anaerobic infections, and pouch worm disease, as well as for the treatment of intestinal and extraintestinal amoebiasis, such as cutaneous leishmaniasis, pleural amoebiasis, and amoebic liver abscesses.
ADVERSE REACTIONS: Nausea, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, headache, dizziness, and numbness of the limbs are common.
Contraindications: It is contraindicated for those who are allergic to metronidazole and its components, patients with active central nervous system disease, patients with blood disorders, pregnant and lactating women, and patients with alcoholism.
Precautions: alcohol should not be consumed during and for three days after taking the drug.
