Glucose tolerance test for pregnant women is usually 75g oral glucose tolerance test. Pregnant women need to fast early in the morning and take blood intravenously to measure blood glucose; then take 75g of glucose water at once, and measure blood glucose several times after taking the sugar.
The glucose tolerance test for pregnant women is designed to check whether a pregnant woman has pre-pregnancy diabetes or gestational diabetes. Those with risk factors for diabetes, such as obesity and a first-degree relative with type 2 diabetes, should be screened with a 75g oral glucose tolerance test (75g OGTT) at their first labor and delivery visit.
For pregnant women who have not been diagnosed with pre-pregnancy diabetes, the 75gOGTT is usually checked at the 24-28 week visit.
Pregnant women need to fast for the 75gOGTT. The pregnant woman fasts early in the morning and blood is taken intravenously to measure her blood glucose concentration. Then 75g of glucose is dissolved in 300-400ml of water and drunk within 5 minutes. Timing starts from the first sip of the glucose water, and blood glucose is measured once in 1 or 2 hours after taking the glucose water.
Pregnant women should do the 75g OGTT on time under the instruction of the doctor and follow the precautions ordered by the doctor.
