How to treat external auditory canal cholesteatoma

Early diagnosis and early treatment of external auditory canal cholesteatoma is very important. External auditory canal cholesteatoma can cause severe ear pain, ear drainage, hearing loss and even facial paralysis, so once it is detected, it must be treated promptly to avoid complications. In clinical practice, treatment is usually carried out by the following methods: instrument removal method, external ear canal irrigation method, and surgical treatment method. 1. Instrument removal method: This method is usually suitable for cholesteatoma that is not completely blocked in the external ear canal. It usually involves slowly extending the cerumen hook into the inner side of the cholesteatoma along the wall of the external ear canal and hooking it out. Most outpatient clinics are now using an endoscope for external ear canal removal, with a clearer view and much less pain and damage. 2.External ear canal rinsing method: If the cholesteatoma is so hard that it cannot be removed with some instruments, you can use 3% to 5% sodium bicarbonate solution to drip the ear three to four times a day, which will soften the cholesteatoma in the long run and then rinse it out. 3.Surgical treatment: The usual surgical treatment methods are endoscopic or microscopic removal under general anesthesia; if the cholesteatoma in the external auditory canal invades the middle ear, a simultaneous tympanoplasty operation is required.
