The epiphyllum should be used and not abused! Epiphyllum contains the toxic ingredient aconitine, mainly on the myocardium, vagus nerve, peripheral nerves and excitatory paralytic effect, the most serious to life-threatening. Therefore, the application of epiphyllum should be cautious. Regarding the dosage and usage of epiphyllum, the following two precautions: First, different people have different tolerance for epiphyllum, some people use 30 to 60 grams without problems. Some people will have a toxic reaction to just a few grams. Therefore, except for critical situations, caution should be exercised. It may be advisable to start with a small dose (3~6 grams), and if there is no reaction, it can be gradually increased in an incremental manner, roughly 30 grams to the extent. After the effect is obtained, it is not necessary to use a large amount, and can also take the same way of decreasing, and slowly reduce down. Secondly, the processing of cooked epiphyllum, is soaked in brine and then steamed in a cage drawer, its toxic components will be destroyed, while the active ingredients remain unchanged. However, its steaming process is still empirical at present. It is suggested that the research unit should make some tests to provide the processors with the best processing solution. In Japan, the processing method is high temperature and high pressure to destroy the aconitine lactone, so that the human soup is much safer, and there is no need to decoct for a long period of time (of course, the dosage of epiphyllum in Japanese Chinese medicine is very small). In the present situation, if the dosage of epiphyllum is large, it is still better to make it into medicine. It must be decocted for half an hour, preferably with three or five slices of ginger or a spoonful of honey. The experience of Sichuan doctors is: to the extent that the mouth does not taste numb. If you feel numbness in the mouth and tongue, you should decoct again. In addition, the decoction of epiphyllum should be filled with water at one time, and no water should be added in the middle of the decoction. The first symptoms of epiphyllum poisoning are dizziness, panic, numbness of the mouth, tongue, lips and limbs, and speech is not crisp. This can be used in a large bowl of rice water, which has the effect of alleviating the symptoms of poisoning, and then 60 grams of licorice decoction can be used. Severe cases, in addition to the above symptoms, nausea and vomiting, cold and wet skin, chest tightness, slow and weak heart rhythm, blood pressure drop, premature beats, arrhythmia, body temperature drop, or sudden convulsions, should be sent to the hospital for emergency treatment.
