What to do about left pleural thickening

Pleural thickening on the left side is considered to be caused by a history of lung tissue infection, pleural effusion treatment, or even hemopneumothorax and abscess chest treatment after trauma, resulting in local inflammatory pleural thickening, and the patient may also have chest pain and chest tightness after activity. Patients can be advised to perform deep breathing exercises, or choose running or swimming, which can increase lung function and reduce the discomfort brought by thickening to patients. In the case of severe pleural thickening, or the formation of obvious fibrous plate, which affects the patient’s lung function, open-chest surgery can be chosen for thickened pleura and fibrous plate stripping, but the risk of surgery is also relatively high, and attention should be paid to symptomatic treatment such as infection prevention during the perioperative period. If there is obvious cough and sputum, treatment such as nebulized inhalation can also be applied in combination, and chest CT review should be performed regularly.
