Can CT detect fractures?

CT is a more refined imaging test than X-rays to detect fractures. X-rays are preferred in cases of trauma, and if a fracture is not observed on X-rays, it does not mean that it can be ruled out. Some minor fractures or bone fractures are difficult to observe on early X-rays, so further CT examinations can be performed, and two- and three-dimensional reconstructions of CT can be performed to determine very subtle fractures, such as rib fractures. In some patients, rib fractures cannot be detected by X-rays, but very subtle fractures can be detected by CT examination as well as reconstruction and imaging, so CT is a more accurate imaging modality to determine fractures. If the fracture is clearly identified by X-rays, a CT plain scan can also be performed for further examination to get a clearer picture of the displaced fracture mass.
