How does ASIAN IMHS treat intertrochanteric fractures of the femur?

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the clinical efficacy of Asian Intramedullary Hip System (ASIAN IMHS) in the treatment of intertrochanteric fractures of the femur. METHODS: From January 2006 to January 2008, 34 cases of intertrochanteric femoral fractures were treated with the ASIAN IMHS, and the fractures were staged according to AO/ASIF. RESULTS: Thirty-two patients were followed up from 6 to 18 months. All fractures healed in 11-23 weeks with a mean of 14.5 weeks, with a mean tip-tip distance (TAD) of 24 mm. There were no intraoperative complications, and no complications such as infection, deep vein thrombosis, intramedullary nail fracture, femoral stem fracture, tension screw loosening and fracture, and cut-out femoral head and hip inversion deformity. CONCLUSION: ASIAN IMHS is designed based on the anatomical characteristics of Asian people, and it is recommended for the treatment of intertrochanteric fracture of femur with the advantages of simple operation steps, less trauma, definite fracture fixation, less complications and early functional exercise for patients. Intraoperative C-arm frontal and lateral measurement of the sum of the distance from the caudal end of the kerfing pin to the articular surface is important to prevent the tension screw from cutting out the femoral head.
