The possible causes of protruding eyes are physiologic state, hyperthyroidism, prolonged eye axis and other eye diseases.
1. Normal eye protrudes out of the eye socket in the range of 12~14mm, beyond this range is protruding eye.
2. Hyperthyroidism: patients with hyperthyroidism can often be accompanied by different degrees of protruding eyes, and patients are often accompanied by palpitations, emaciation, temper tantrums and other symptoms.
3. Eye axis prolongation: mainly seen in axial myopia, i.e., true myopia, the normal length of the eye axis is about 24mm, due to a variety of reasons caused by the growth of the eye axis, the symptoms of proptosis can occur, the mechanism is still unclear.
4. Other eye diseases: including extraocular muscle hypertrophy, intraorbital tumors and other diseases, due to the increase of orbital contents, causing the bulging of the eyeballs, which need further examination to clarify the etiology.
