X-shaped leg is also known as valgus knee. The causes of knee valgus are varied and may include rickets, obesity, overweight, and localized fibrous bone dysplasia. Although the causes are different, the corrective methods are more or less the same. Mild asymptomatic valgus does not require treatment. Mild asymptomatic knee valgus needs no treatment. Symptomatic and severe cases can be corrected by exercise, orthosis and surgery.
1. Exercise therapy: Mild knee valgus, without structural changes, can be improved by exercise therapy, such as muscle strength training, knee mobility training, so as to correct the leg shape.
2. Orthotic treatment: When the symptoms are obvious, affecting the walking posture or appearance, consider wearing orthotics to correct the problem, in order to restore the normal force line of the knee joint and correct the leg shape.
3. Surgical treatment: For severe cases, it often induces traumatic knee osteoarthritis and produces structural changes, so it is necessary to consider surgical treatment, such as osteotomy, in order to rebuild the structure of the knee joint.
If the knee valgus seriously affects normal walking, it is recommended to consult a doctor in time to clarify the cause of the disease, assess the severity, and carry out further treatment if necessary.
