A red mark scratched by a puppy does not require rabies virus vaccination if there is no broken skin. If there is a red mark with visible skin breakage, it depends on whether the dog has been vaccinated against rabies. If the dog has been vaccinated against rabies, there is no need for a shot to prevent rabies virus infection. If the dog has not been vaccinated against rabies and is scratched and bleeding, or has broken skin, the wound needs to be cleaned, disinfected, bandaged, and vaccinated at the nearest vaccination station within 24 hours.
