Treatment of lower limb arterial occlusion with tonifying Yang Huiwu Tang (补阳還五汤)

Arterial occlusion of the lower limbs belongs to the category of gangrene (cold and numbness of the limbs at the beginning, then necrosis of the toe joints, black rot and ulceration, which will not be healed for a long time) in traditional Chinese medicine, and tonifying yang and restoring wu dang is the treatment for stroke caused by deficiency of qi and blood stasis, and it does not treat gangrene in general, but if the clinical manifestations of gangrene are in line with the indications for tonifying yang and restoring wu dang, the soup can be used to treat the disease. Complementing Yang to restore five soup is composed of angelica, astragalus, peach kernel, dirong, chuanxiong and red peony, etc. It can clinically serve to tonify qi, open the collaterals and invigorate blood circulation. Tonifying Yang Returning Five Soup usually treats a major stroke following qi deficiency and blood stagnation, which manifests as hemiplegia (inability to move one side of the limb at will), asymmetry of the mouth and eyes, salivation (drooling) at the corners of the mouth, unclear speech, incontinence of urine, and enuresis, etc. If the clinical manifestations of demodicosis are consistent with the clinical findings, it is recommended to use this formula. If the clinical manifestation of gangrene meets the above indications, it can be treated with tonifying Yang Huiwu Tang. If gangrene occurs, it is necessary to go to the hospital in time to avoid delaying or aggravating the condition by taking medicines indiscriminately. Taking tonifying Yang Huiwu Tang needs doctor’s guidance.
