Formula and dosage of Er Chen Tang

Er Chen Tang is a drying, dampness-reducing and phlegm-reducing agent. The common formula and dosage are 5 taels of Semixia, 5 taels of Tangerine Red, 3 taels of Poria cocos, 1.5 taels of Radix et Rhizoma Glycyrrhizae, 7 slices of Ginger, and one of Prunus Mume.
Er Chen Tang has the efficacy of drying dampness and resolving phlegm, regulating qi and zhong (regulating the qi of the spleen and stomach to make the functions of the spleen and stomach smooth), and is often used in the treatment of dampness and phlegm syndrome, which is characterized by coughing and phlegm, whitish color and easy to swallow, nausea and vomiting, chest and diaphragm constriction, limbs and bodies being sleepy and heavy (weakness of the limbs and sinking of the hair), or dizziness and palpitations (heartbeat speeding up, often accompanied with panic), with a slippery tongue and smooth white coating, and slippery pulse, etc. It is also used to treat chronic bronchitis and bronchitis.
It is also commonly used in treating chronic bronchitis, chronic gastritis, Meniere’s disease, neurotic vomiting, etc., which are characterized by damp phlegm.
Because of the dry nature of this formula, it should be used with caution for people with dry phlegm; this formula should not be used for people with vomiting of blood, thirst, yin deficiency and blood deficiency.
