Dementia can be categorized into degenerative dementia and non-degenerative dementia according to its causes, in which degenerative dementia may be related to genetic factors and non-degenerative dementia may be caused by vascular dementia and other factors. 1. Degenerative dementia: Degenerative dementia includes Alzheimer’s disease and frontotemporal lobe dementia, of which Alzheimer’s disease is affected by factors such as heredity and metabolic abnormality, and frontotemporal lobe dementia is related to factors such as a decrease in 5-hydroxytryptamine and a decrease in dopamine. 2. Non-degenerative dementia: Non-degenerative dementia may be caused by vascular dementia, which is affected by multiple cerebral infarcts, cerebral hemorrhage and other factors, and viral encephalitis, toxic encephalopathy, brain tumor and other factors. Patients with dementia are recommended to be admitted to hospital for examination and standardized treatment according to their condition.
