Hand and foot tics after thyroidectomy are usually associated with cold, reaction to anesthesia, and hypocalcemia. It is recommended to remove the causative factors as soon as possible, and then use reasonable medication if necessary.
1. Cold: If you do not pay attention to warmth during surgery, resulting in cold limbs, may cause post-thyroidectomy tetany, it is recommended that appropriate hot compresses, can accelerate blood circulation; room temperature should be appropriate, can be maintained at 26 ~ 28 ℃.
2. Anesthesia reaction: anesthetics have not been fully metabolized in the body, tetany may occur. If the symptoms are mild, there is no need for special treatment, and the symptoms will be gradually reduced after the anesthetics are discharged from the body. In severe cases, regular observation and monitoring of vital signs can be done, and if necessary, injection of ipecac should be given.
3. Hypocalcemia: Thyroid surgery may also affect the function of parathyroid glands, resulting in hypocalcemia, causing tetany, so now should be as soon as possible to the hospital to replenish the blood calcium, if necessary, need to be injected intravenously calcium gluconate. If necessary, intravenous calcium gluconate should be given. Vitamin D and calcium supplements may be needed, and blood calcium should be rechecked regularly.
If tetany occurs after thyroidectomy, it is recommended to analyze the cause before treatment, and if medication is needed, it should be administered in strict accordance with the doctor’s requirements.
