Herpes zoster is a viral skin disease characterized by clusters of herpes and neuralgia along the nerves caused by varicella-zoster virus infection. Patients often have a tingling or burning sensation in the skin before the onset of the disease, followed by clusters of blisters surrounded by a red halo. In severe cases, there may be blood blisters or necrosis. Wang Xiaobing of the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine at the People’s Hospital of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region is also known as “herpes zoster”, named after its tendency to occur on the lower back. So, is herpes zoster only found on the lower back? No, it is not. Although herpes zoster is distributed in a band along the nerves, most commonly along the intercostal nerves in the chest, and generally does not exceed the midline of the body, in some cases it can be found all over the body, and can occur in any part of the body, including the chest and back, head and face, rib cage, and limbs. The following are pictures of some areas of herpes zoster.
