A vague pain in the middle of the chest may be caused by certain diseases such as angina pectoris, reflux esophagitis, and lung malignancy.
1. Angina pectoris: due to transient ischemia of the heart muscle, patients may experience episodic pain in the middle of the chest or discomfort of chest tightness. It occurs mostly after exertion, usually lasts for a short time, and can be relieved by stopping activities or standing in place for a few minutes; patients with more serious symptoms can get better after taking nitroglycerin.
2. Reflux esophagitis: due to the reflux of gastroduodenal contents into the esophagus, resulting in esophageal mucosal erosion and ulceration, patients may experience a burning sensation under the sternum or in the middle of the chest, and in severe cases, it may radiate to the precordial region, causing severe pain, and is usually accompanied by the symptom of acid reflux.
3. Lung malignant tumor: due to the invasion of tumor cells on the peripheral blood vessels, nerves, pleura and so on, chest tightness and pain may appear, accompanied by cough, bloody sputum, fever, shortness of breath and other symptoms.
When there is vague pain in the middle of the chest, patients should consult the doctor in time, complete the relevant examination and actively cooperate with the doctor’s treatment.
