Depression belongs to the category of “depression” in traditional Chinese medicine, and there is no definite time for Ganmai Dazao Tang to be effective in treating depression for a few days, as there are individual differences due to different conditions and personal constitution, so no generalization can be made. Depression is characterized by restlessness, depression, distension and pain in the abdomen and ribs, fullness in the chest, easy to get angry and cry, and a sensation of a foreign body in the throat. Gan Mai Da Zao Tang is composed of licorice, wheat and jujube. It has the effects of harmonizing the middle and easing the pain (relieving pain by regulating the spleen and stomach), calming the mind and nourishing the heart. Ganmai Dazao Tang is often used in the treatment of visceral agitation (upset and depression, sadness and wanting to cry for no reason), which manifests as trance, frequent sadness and wanting to cry that is uncontrollable, disturbed sleep, restlessness in the mind, disordered speech and behavior, and frequent yawning. It should be noted that this formula should not be used in epilepsy syndrome with internal exuberance of phlegm-fire. Adverse effects are not known. If medication is needed, it should be administered under the guidance of professional Chinese medicine practitioners.
