Combined Chinese and Western medicine treatment for esophageal cancer

Patients who experience a feeling of obstruction in swallowing and difficulty in eating with chest and back pain may have problems with the esophagus and should go to the hospital for X-ray barium swallow, CT or esophagoscopy…. Generally speaking, modern medical treatment requires pathological diagnosis, i.e. through esophagoscopy (or gastroscopy) and biopsy to obtain diseased tissues and send them to pathology department for examination. After clear pathological diagnosis of esophageal cancer, early esophageal cancer is mainly treated by surgery. Middle and late stage patients can have the following treatment choices: 1. If the patient’s general condition is good, chemotherapy + radiation therapy can be used. 2.If the patient’s general condition is poor, radiation therapy can be applied to the lesion area of esophagus alone. 3.If the patient does not want to have chemotherapy or radiotherapy, Chinese medicine can be used. 4. Chemotherapy or radiotherapy can be combined with TCM treatment at the same time. It must be pointed out that for patients with middle or late stage esophageal cancer, the above treatments are palliative, i.e., to reduce pain, prolong life and improve the quality of life. If patients are not willing to do gastroscopy and have no pathological diagnosis, they can also be treated with traditional Chinese medicine. However, in principle, they should go to regular big hospitals for consultation, and should not listen to certain exaggerated propaganda and blindly purchase medicines.
