Can I have a normal delivery with a one-week neck bypass?

Cord winding is a common condition in obstetrics. It is possible to have a normal delivery with a one-week bypass. As long as you are under the guidance of your doctor, you will usually have a safe delivery. The occurrence of cord winding is associated with a long umbilical cord, small fetus, excessive amniotic fluid and frequent fetal movements. It is mostly diagnosed by ultrasound. In case of cord bypass, special attention should be paid to fetal heart monitoring. If frequent variation of fetal heartbeat decelerates and cannot be relieved by oxygen and changing position, the pregnancy should be terminated in time. However, cord winding does not suggest that a cesarean section must be performed. Because cord winding is common, this point does not imply a pathological condition either. Close monitoring of the mother during delivery does not increase the chance of neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy even in children with a combined cord winding. Therefore, it is generally possible to deliver a child with a one-week cord bypass according to the woman’s wishes. If the fetus is already showing signs of hypoxia at the beginning of labor, a cesarean section should be performed immediately. If the abnormality is found in the second stage of labor, the fetus should be delivered quickly, and if the umbilical cord is found to be too tightly wound during delivery, the umbilical cord should be clamped and cut immediately. The safety of the mother and the fetus should be protected. If the fetal cord is wrapped around the neck, pregnant women should not be too alarmed, but should follow the doctor’s advice and keep a good attitude to give birth.
