Abdominal acupuncture is a new, painless or minimally painful and highly effective acupuncture method invented by Professor Bo Zhiyun. According to Chinese medicine, “the meridians are the channels for the flow of qi and blood”, and all tissues need the meridians to supply qi and blood in order to maintain a normal physiological state. Therefore, we can consider that the meridians are the earliest systemic control system of the human body. According to the above theory, the fetus is gradually formed in the mother’s body through the maternal supply of qi and blood, and the earliest channel through which the mother supplies the fetus with qi and blood is the umbilical cord. Therefore, the umbilical cord is the initial channel and regulatory system for meridian formation. During this process, the umbilical cord always plays a very important role, not only as a channel for supplying nutrients but also as a control of the amount of nutrients supplied to certain tissues after the tissues have reached a certain level of development, effectively controlling all tissues and systems and enabling the orderly continuation of human heredity. Therefore, we can assert that the umbilical cord as the core system is the earliest system of regulation and supply of nutrition for the whole body. In the concept of Chinese medicine, it can be called: the innate meridian system. It is obvious to everyone that the concept of meridian system in TCM includes both the role of regulation and the role of supplying nutrition. Therefore, the meridian system can be applied not only in clinical diagnosis but also in the system of treatment. As early as 1993, Bo published an article in Beijing Traditional Chinese Medicine 4, suggesting that there are innate meridians in the abdomen and that “the large abdomen, with Shen Que as the core, also has a neglected system of higher regulation of the whole body”. The proposed innate meridian system has improved the theory of meridian system and provided many valuable clinical data and theoretical basis for the development of the discipline of acupuncture and moxibustion, and promoted the development of the discipline. After more than 20 years of clinical research on the distribution characteristics of the abdominal meridians, Bo concluded that the effect of the innate meridians on the whole body and the influence of the abdominal meridian system on the whole body are the primary conditions for good clinical efficacy of abdominal acupuncture. The abdominal acupuncture therapy treatment emphasizes accurate acupuncture points, reasonable depth of acupuncture, and strict standardization of operation as the basic guarantee of clinical efficacy. It also confirms the objectivity of the orderly distribution of the abdominal meridian system and its correlation with the distribution of meridians throughout the body. It has certain significance for revealing the characteristics of meridians and scientifically developing the functions of the meridian system. It makes abdominal acupuncture a painless, safe, efficient and fast method to treat chronic and difficult diseases with a wide range of indications to meet the needs of the times. The national-level Chinese medicine continuing education program “Bo’s abdominal acupuncture therapy” is a new acupuncture therapy invented by Prof. Bo Zhiyun after more than 20 years of dedicated research. In recent years, Professor Bo has collaborated with the Chinese Acupuncture Association and other units to research and promote abdominal acupuncture therapy, which has treated a large number of chronic diseases and difficult diseases with remarkable results, and is highly evaluated by patients and medical colleagues. Each acupuncture point is a standard locating point on the body surface. The acupuncture points are determined according to their different functions in clinical practice, and each acupuncture point has a certain relative specificity. Any acupuncture point is a known locating point and never an arbitrary point, which is the understanding and basic philosophy of abdominal acupuncture therapy for acupuncture points. Therefore, accurate positioning of points and understanding of the acupuncture nature of each abdominal point is the basis for learning abdominal acupuncture. Abdominal acupuncture points have the characteristic of “a hair’s breadth of difference, a thousand miles”, and the positioning standards and operational specifications for abdominal acupuncture must be strictly enforced. 1.1 Calibration of abdominal acupuncture points: the proportional inch method (1) Calibration of upper abdominal acupuncture points: 8 inches from the Zhongting point to the Shen Que point; (2) Calibration of lower abdominal acupuncture points: 5 inches from the Shen Que point to the Qu bone point; (3) Calibration of lateral abdominal acupuncture points: 6 inches from the Shen Que point to the lateral abdomen via the Tianshu point. 1.2 Measurement of abdominal centimeter: horizontal line method (1) The upper abdomen from Atrium point to Shen Que point is determined as 8 inches is the straight line distance on the horizontal line between two acupuncture points from Atrium to Shen Que point when the patient is lying down. (2) The distance from Shen Que point to Qu Bone point in the lower abdomen is determined as 5 inches, which means that the straight line distance between two points on the horizontal line from Shen Que point to Qu Bone point is 5 inches when the patient is lying down. (3) The lateral abdomen is determined as 6 inches from the Shen Que and through the Tian Shu points to the lateral abdomen is the straight line distance on the horizontal line between the stopping point of the lateral abdomen and the two acupuncture points of the Shen Que point when the patient is lying down. The horizontal line, proportional inch method of acupuncture is the method of acupuncture adopted by abdominal acupuncture to exclude the individual differences formed by the human body because of fatness and thinness. 1.3 Positioning of the Ren Vessel The Ren Vessel is located on the lower side of the abdominal white line, and the ability to accurately determine the position of the Ren Vessel is a major factor affecting the correct extraction of points. There are two ways to distinguish the localization of the Ren Vessel. (1) Observe the direction of the pores; (2) distinguish the pigmentation of the Ren Vessel; To make it easy for you to remember, we have compiled the following song for taking acupuncture points with abdominal needles: Take acupuncture points with abdominal needles carefully, measure them repeatedly and do not get distracted; the upper eight, lower five, and side open six, and feel the starting and stopping points at the end of the ruler. Zhong Ting Qu Bone needs to be discussed, more check where the Ren line; pigmentation of the pores to determine, not a centimeter to remember. 2. Positioning and functions of common abdominal acupoints (1) Zhonggui, 4 inches above the Shen Que point, on the Ren vein, is the main point for gastritis, gastric ulcer, gastric prolapse, stomach pain, indigestion, vomiting, abdominal distention, diarrhea and constipation, dysentery, hypertension, neurasthenia, mental illness, vomiting blood from false labor, asthma and other diseases. It is equivalent to the mouth and can treat various diseases of the mouth, nose, teeth and head and face (2) Hypogastrium, 2 inches above the Shen Que point on the Ren Vessel, a meridian point of the Ren Vessel, can treat indigestion, stomach pain, gastric prolapse, diarrhea, regurgitation and other diseases. It is equivalent to the seventh cervical vertebra and can treat diseases of the corresponding parts (3) Shui Shui (water) point 1 inch above the Shen Que point on the Ren Vessel It can treat diseases such as ascites, vomiting, diarrhea, nephritis, intestinal dysentery, dysuria and urinary obstruction It is equivalent to the seventh thoracic vertebra and can treat diseases of the corresponding parts (4) Shen Que The middle of the umbilicus Acute and chronic enteritis, chronic dysentery, pediatric dysentery and prolapse, intestinal tuberculosis, edema, dropsy, stroke and desiccation, heat stroke, women’s blood cold and not subject to fetal gas, etc. (5) Qi Que (5) Qi Hai: 1.5 inches below the Shen Que point on the Ren Vessel. It is used for diseases such as hypochondriasis, vomiting, abdominal distension, abdominal pain, intestinal paralysis, enuresis, frequent urination, urinary retention, spermatorrhea, impotence, abdominal discharge, menstrual disorders, deficiency of Yang, fear and sleeplessness, neurasthenia, and coldness of the extremities. It is equivalent to the second and third lumbar vertebrae and can treat diseases of the second and third lumbar vertebrae (6) Shimen (Alias: Absolute Pregnancy, forbidden to be acupunctured) On the Ren Vessel 2 inches below the Shen Que point Abdominal distension and hardness, edema, urinary retention, urinary defecation, abdominal pain, diarrhea, body chills and fever, coughing and rebellion, vomiting blood, hernia pain, postpartum malignant dew, menorrhagia, amenorrhea, mastitis, women’s terminal pregnancy and other diseases. Forbidden needles (7) Guan Yuan (alias: Dan Tian) 3 inches below Shen Que point on the Ren Vessel All kinds of deficiency and hundred losses, subumbilical colic, abdominal pain and diarrhea, nephritis, irregular menstruation, women’s infertility, dysmenorrhea, pelvic inflammatory disease, hemorrhage, uterine prolapse, seminal emission, impotence, amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, urinary tract infection, postpartum dew, hernia and other diseases. It is equivalent to the fourth and fifth lumbar vertebrae, and can treat diseases of the fourth and fifth lumbar vertebrae (8) Shang Qu (5 minutes from the hypogastrium) Diseases such as painful cutting in the abdomen, accumulation of food, painful red eyes starting from the inner canthus, peritonitis, neck and shoulder pain. It is equivalent to the combination of neck and shoulder and treats the corresponding parts (9) Qi Pun 5 points from Qi Hai Lumbar muscle strain, lumbar pain, soreness and weakness of the lower limbs, etc. Equivalent to the second and third lumbar vertebrae, treating the corresponding area (10) Qi point 5 points next to Guan Yuan point Penetrating pain leading to lumbar spine, menstrual disorders, dysmenorrhea, infertility, urinary tract infection, diarrhea, diarrhea and other diseases. Equivalent to the fourth and fifth lumbar vertebrae next to the corresponding parts (11) Slippery flesh gate Taken at 2 inches next to the water point Epilepsy, vomiting blood, heavy tongue and tongue strength, gastroenteritis, shoulder arthritis and other diseases. Equivalent to shoulder, treating diseases around the shoulder joint (12) Tianshu (2 inches from the middle of the navel) Vomiting, diarrhea, red and white dysentery, indigestion, edema, abdominal distention and intestinal tinnitus, cold gas around the navel, painful fullness and constipation, red and white discharge, irregular menstruation, gonorrhea, infertility, epilepsy and other diseases Equivalent to the lateral lumbar area, treating various pains and diseases of the lumbar muscles (13) Wai Ling (2 inches from the Yinjiao point) Abdominal pain under the heart like hanging, painful lower lead umbilicus, hernia menstrual pain, pain in the hip joint, sciatica and other diseases. It is equivalent to the hip, treating diseases around the hip joint and femoral head (14) Upper rheumatism point Sliding meatus point 5 points up and 5 points out It is equivalent to the elbow, treating diseases around the elbow joint (15) Upper rheumatism point outside Sliding meatus point 1 inch out It is equivalent to the wrist, treating diseases around the wrist joint (16) Lower rheumatism point Wai Ling point 5 points down and 5 points out It is equivalent to the knee, treating various diseases of the knee joint (17) Lower rheumatism point Lower rheumatism point 5 points down and 5 points out Points equivalent to the ankle, treating various diseases of the ankle joint Abdominal acupuncture requires clinical patients to have accurate measurements of the basic positioning points of the abdomen during the first treatment, and for patients with poor efficacy in the course of treatment requires repeated proofreading according to the norms of acupuncture points.
