Where are the kidneys located?

The kidneys are located on either side of the retroperitoneal spine, approximately from the 12th thoracic vertebra to the 3rd lumbar vertebra.
The human body has two kidneys, one on the left and one on the right, shaped like a fava bean, located on either side of the retroperitoneal spine, approximately from the 12th thoracic vertebra to the 3rd lumbar vertebra. The right kidney is half to one vertebra lower than the left kidney. Its exact location is between the lower edge of the 11th thoracic vertebra and the 2nd to 3rd lumbar intervertebral disc for the left kidney; the right kidney is between the upper edge of the 12th thoracic vertebra and the upper edge of the 3rd lumbar vertebra.
A small number of people have ectopic kidneys, where the kidneys are located lower than normal and may also be located in the pelvic or abdominal cavity. Patients with ectopic kidney conditions also need to be considered for the presence of ureteral tortuosity and renal pelvis malformations. Patients may experience symptoms such as ureteral colic, abdominal masses, urinary tract infections, and hydronephrosis.
Kidney is an important organ in the body, which has the function of excreting waste and regulating body fluids. If there is any related abnormal discomfort in the body, it is recommended to seek medical treatment in time to avoid delaying the condition.
