Chinese herbs for relieving cough and calming asthma (stopping cough and calming wheezing) include almonds, perilla seeds, Momordica charantia, Aster, Forsythia, and Morus alba bark.
Almonds and perilla seeds both stop cough and calm wheezing, moisten the intestines and laxatives, and are used for coughing and wheezing, chest tightness, and intestinal dryness and constipation; Momordica charantia moistens the lungs and lowers qi (nourishes the lungs so that the upwardly charged lung qi descends), and stops coughing, and is used regardless of whether it is an external sensation, an internal injury, or a violent or prolonged cough.
Aster and Fructus Asteraceae can moisten the lungs and lower the qi, relieve cough and resolve phlegm, and are often used in combination; Sang Bai Pi diarrhealizes the lungs and calms asthma (calming asthma by regulating the qi of the lungs), induces diuresis and eliminates swelling (relieving urination and eliminating edema), and is used for lung-heat asthma and coughing and for oedema and distension.
