Pain on the outer edge of the ear may be caused by boils, ear contusion, chondritis and other diseases.
1. Boil: Boil is an acute purulent inflammation of the hair follicle and its deep surrounding tissues, usually caused by Staphylococcus aureus infection, which can occur in all parts of the body, and is also distantly localized to one or more painful nodules. It causes pain when it occurs on the outer edge of the ear.

3. Chondritis: Chondritis is an infection of the cartilaginous membrane that occurs in the auricle of the ear. Causes include trauma, mechanical compression, surgery, frostbite, burns and so on, and the patient will experience localized pain, itching and other symptoms.
