Poria is a water-inducing and edema-eliminating drug. Poria has the efficacy of inducing water retention and eliminating swelling, promoting dampness and strengthening the spleen, tranquilizing the heart and tranquilizing the mind, and is mainly used in the treatment of edema and urination, phlegm-drinking vertigo and palpitation (due to phlegm-drinking and evil qi upstream caused by vertigo and palpitation), deficiency of the spleen with little food, loose stools (feces that are thin and unshapely) and diarrhea, restlessness of the heart and mind, and palpitation and insomnia. It is contraindicated for those who have deficiency of cold, essence and slippery, and deficiency of yin without water-dampness.
Poria cocos is a heat-clearing and detoxifying (removing heat and toxicity from the body) drug. Poria cocos has the efficacy of detoxifying, removing dampness and facilitating joints, and is used in treating contracture of limbs, tendon and bone pain caused by syphilis and mercury poisoning, damp-heat gonorrhea, bandhas, carbuncle, scrofula (mainly refers to neck lymph node tuberculosis), scabies. It is not suitable for patients with yin deficiency of liver and kidney (deficiency of yin fluid in liver and kidney).
