What is a biopsy of a gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer

Gastric and duodenal ulcer biopsy is the process of obtaining a mucosal specimen from the site of a gastroduodenal ulcer and the surrounding mucosa through gastroscopy for pathologic examination.
Peptic ulcers include gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers. Peptic ulcers can cause congestion, edema, and ulceration of the GI mucosa. Mucosal biopsy is a common clinical pathologic biopsy test. Peptic ulcers can be pathologically biopsied by gastroscopy by removing the peptic mucosa from the ulcer site and surrounding mucosa.
The size, depth, color, and border of the ulcer can usually be directly observed under gastroscopy. Peptic ulcers have a certain chance of becoming cancerous. Therefore, if suspicious changes are seen by naked eye under gastroscopy, pathological biopsy of the mucosa can be taken to further determine the benign or malignant nature of the ulcer and prevent misdiagnosis and omission.
