A common disorder causing hair loss behind the crown is androgenetic baldness, which can be treated in men with minoxidil preparations and oral finasteride. For female patients, topical application of minoxidil preparations is preferred and, if treatment is not effective or is associated with hyperandrogenemia, oral anti-androgen drugs such as spironolactone can be administered. Medication can be combined with low energy laser treatment and autologous hair transplantation.
