When a child’s new teeth come in and don’t fall out, it’s called retained milk teeth, and usually requires a visit to the pediatric dentist to have the retained milk teeth extracted. Retained milk teeth usually need to go to the hospital for extraction of retained milk teeth. If the milk teeth are not extracted in time, it will affect the new teeth, which may cause the new teeth to erupt abnormally and become malformed. Orthodontic treatment may also be required if the retained baby teeth cause the permanent teeth to grow too far apart. Most cases of retained milk teeth are caused by eating too much soft and fine food, and the normal physiological functions of the teeth are not properly performed. The main function of the teeth is to chew. Normal chewing process allows normal development of the teeth, and when the permanent teeth erupt, normal chewing promotes smoother loss of milk teeth. In this case, parents are advised to take their children to a regular dental hospital as soon as possible to have the retained milk teeth extracted in a timely manner.
