What is Spleen and Kidney Yang Deficiency Constipation

Spleen and kidney yang deficiency (deficiency of yang qi in the spleen and kidneys) type constipation is mostly seen in middle-aged and old people, which is a symptom that occurs due to the deficiency of yang in the spleen and kidneys, resulting in the failure of the conduction function of the large intestine, which cannot push the bowels to expel the feces. According to Chinese medicine, the spleen has the function of transporting water and liquids, and the kidneys are responsible for water, opening the orifices in the two yin. When the spleen and kidneys are deficient in yang, the warming function of the spleen and kidneys is restricted, and yin and cold are stagnant, which affects the metabolism of water and liquids and will lead to constipation. Spleen and kidney yang deficiency type constipation is mainly manifested as difficulty in passing stools, dry or not, cold pain in the epigastrium (stomach and abdomen feel cold and painful), pain decreases with warmth, lack of warmth in the limbs, long and clear urine, and a blank complexion, etc. When there is spleen and kidney yang deficiency type constipation, the spleen and kidney warm function is limited, and yin and cold stagnation affects the metabolism of water and fluid. When there is constipation of the spleen and kidney yang deficiency type, the effect of warming the yang to pass stool can be achieved by taking Chinese medicine or moxibustion. In daily life, we need to pay attention to diet, eat less cold food, and increase exercise appropriately, and need to be treated with medication after doctor’s diagnosis.
