Are thyroid nodules with follicular cells cancer?

Thyroid nodules with follicular cells are not necessarily cancerous. The thyroid gland is composed of follicles, which include the follicular lumen and the fluid inside the lumen. The follicular lumen is composed of a single layer of thyroid follicular epithelial cells, whose main function is to synthesize and secrete thyroxine. Follicular epithelial hyperplasia can have columnar, flat, or irregular cell morphology.
Specific analysis is as follows:
1. Columnar: the follicular epithelial cells of the thyroid gland are arranged in a high columnar shape, which is the normal state of the thyroid gland, and the thyroid gland is more active in secretion, so there is no need for special treatment, and regular rechecking can be done.
2. Flat: The flat shape of thyroid follicular epithelial cells indicates that the thyroid gland has weakened secretion function and its activity is reduced. There are many clinical causes of hypothyroidism, such as iodine deficiency, Sheehan’s syndrome, pituitary tumors, thyroid surgery, thyroiditis and so on. Symptomatic replacement therapy can be carried out, timely supplementation of thyroid hormones, such as levothyroxine sodium.
3. Irregular morphology: thyroid follicular epithelial cells present irregular state, mostly thyroid cancer or benign tumors, to further improve the pathological examination, puncture biopsy for benign and malignant classification, to exclude or confirm the diagnosis of malignant tumors.
Patients with thyroid nodules should seek medical treatment as soon as possible , under the guidance of doctors to improve the prognosis.
