Is EBV infection in children serious?

EBV infection in children is generally a more serious disease, mostly caused by infectious mononucleosis, but also with children’s lymphoma, nasopharyngeal carcinoma and so on. EBV mainly invades children and adolescents, usually infected through the oral cavity, proliferating in the pharynx, causing tonsillitis and pharyngitis symptoms, and can enter the bloodstream and involve the lymphatic system around the body, the heart, liver, kidneys, lungs, skin, the central system and other important organs may be infiltrated, with limited necrotic foci. Children with EBV infection usually present with recurrent high fever, enlarged tonsils, sore throat, enlarged peripheral lymph nodes, enlarged liver and spleen, accompanied by a polymorphic rash, etc. It is a self-limiting disease, and most of them have a good recovery, usually lasting for 2 to 4 weeks. In a few children, recovery is slower, or complications such as myocarditis, meningoencephalitis and nephritis are triggered, which last for several months and may be life-threatening in severe cases. Therefore, children with EBV infection are advised to follow the doctor’s instructions for standardized treatment, and regular follow-up, and consult the doctor at any time if there is any discomfort, so as not to be negligent, so as to avoid delays in the condition.
