With the progress of society and lifestyle changes, there are more and more breast cancer patients around us, and breast cancer is increasingly threatening the health of women. For breast cancer patients, there are two major concerns after surgery, one is the decline of quality of life; the other is the fear of distant recurrence or metastasis. The main reason for the decrease of quality of life after surgery is the side effects of surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, etc. These treatments are significant to patients, but at the same time, they also damage their bodies to a certain extent. The main manifestations are weakness, mental fatigue, fatigue, easy to sweat, poor sleep, irregular menstruation, etc. If they carry out normal work, they may feel overwhelmed, and the upper limbs on the affected side are easily swollen. In 2005, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and other research and medical institutions conducted a study on 530 post-operative breast cancer patients and found a clear pattern: 80% of the post-operative breast cancer patients were found to be suffering from Qi-Yin deficiency and Qi-Yin imbalance, therefore, if the patients can persist in taking Chinese medicine for a period of time, the above symptoms will be relieved. As long as the patients can take Chinese medicine for a period of time, the above symptoms will be improved to a great extent, which will obviously improve the quality of life of the patients and give them a good mental state, thus greatly enhancing their confidence in overcoming the disease. The direct impact on the survival of breast cancer patients after surgery is the recurrence or distant metastasis of the tumor, and how to prevent and control the recurrence or metastasis after surgery and how to prolong the survival time is still a medical problem. If a patient finishes radiotherapy or chemotherapy, if she is estrogen receptor positive, she can continue with endocrine therapy; but if she is estrogen receptor negative, there is no effective further treatment in Western medicine. In contrast, TCM can treat the patient’s actual situation with individualized diagnosis and treatment, and on the basis of benefiting qi and nourishing yin, combined with the method of dispersing nodes and detoxifying toxins, dealing with the relationship between supporting the righteous and dispelling the evil. A number of famous medical institutions in China have conducted retrospective studies on the clinical practice in the past thirty years and proved that postoperative recurrence or metastasis of breast cancer patients can be effectively prevented if they are treated with TCM after surgery. Basic studies such as animal experiments also show that Chinese medicine to prevent recurrence and metastasis has good anti-tumor effects. In major cities in China, such as Shanghai and Guangzhou, more than 90% of breast cancer patients take Chinese medicine normally after surgery and receive standardized treatment of TCM. The academic community has now affirmed that the advantage of TCM in treating breast cancer lies in post-operative conditioning, which can be an effective adjuvant treatment for breast cancer. TCM can also reduce the toxic side effects of radiotherapy for patients, effectively reduce the gastrointestinal reactions during radiotherapy, and improve the completion rate of radiotherapy for patients. For postoperative skin flap necrosis and postoperative swelling of the affected upper limbs after breast cancer surgery, the application of TCM external treatment methods can also rapidly control the symptoms, achieve good results and reduce patients’ pain. Therefore, TCM can participate in the whole treatment of breast cancer, which is of great clinical significance to enhance the physical recovery of postoperative breast cancer patients, improve their survival quality, increase the survival rate and reduce the recurrence and metastasis rate.
