Overeating and irregular diet can cause gastroesophageal reflux disease

The pace of life is getting faster and faster, work pressure is high, people’s lives are becoming more and more irregular. Especially young people, usually busy with work and socializing, unhealthy eating habits; weekends and holidays to relax, but overeating, partying and staying up late. These bad habits put the stomach in an “emergency overtime” state, which can easily lead to GERD. Data show that the incidence of GERD in China has been as high as 5.77%, and is still growing. However, unlike hypertension and diabetes patients who have a higher awareness of the disease, nearly 7 million patients are suffering from the disease, but more than half do not know the name of the disease. Patients who are busy with their careers often suffer from symptoms, and less than 20% of them will visit the clinic. One of the reasons for this is that the disease is particularly good at “hiding”: although the disease usually shows symptoms of heartburn and reflux, it is clinically found that nearly 30% of patients only show a foreign body sensation in the throat, so they often go to the wrong clinic. Gastroesophageal reflux is a disease that continues upward after acid reflux into the esophagus, causing reflux asthma in the lungs, foreign body sensation in the throat, hoarseness and recurrent coughing in the mouth, and a series of oral problems such as dental caries in the mouth. The clinic always receives a lot of patients transferred from other departments. Experts remind that patients with unexplained insomnia, persistent chronic cough, asthma (non-allergic) and retrosternal discomfort in adulthood, which have not been cured in other departments, should be alerted to GERD. How to prevent GERD 1. Excessively obese people will increase abdominal pressure and contribute to reflux, so the intake of high-fat foods that promote reflux should be avoided and weight should be reduced. 2, eat less and more meals, should not eat within 4 hours before bedtime, in order to minimize the stomach contents and gastric pressure at night, if necessary, the head of the bed will be raised 10 cm. this is very important for the reflux at night when lying down, the use of gravity to remove harmful substances in the esophagus. 3, avoid various actions and positions that increase abdominal pressure for a long time in life, including wearing tight clothing and tightening the belt, which helps prevent reflux. 4, quit smoking, quit drinking, eat less chocolate and coffee, etc., because smoking reduces the production of saliva, also associated with heartburn; drinking alcohol, eating chocolate and coffee, etc. will reduce the tension of the lower esophageal sphincter, delaying the emptying of the stomach, and the ability of the esophagus to clear acid is reduced.
