How soon can you walk normally after knee replacement

How long it takes to walk normally after knee replacement depends on the recovery of the knee after surgery. After knee arthroplasty, patients are advised to perform early functional exercises and walking exercises. In the first 1-2 weeks after surgery, patients can basically walk independently, but pain may occur due to trauma. The gait can be restored to the preoperative gait in about 3 months after surgery. For older patients or those with inadequate rehabilitation, the return to normal walking will be delayed. After knee arthroplasty, patients should pay attention to gradually increasing the amount of activity, avoiding overexertion, taking proper rest after exercise, allowing the joint to relax as much as possible in a normal posture, avoiding excessive weight bearing on the knee joint, and reducing the chance of joint wear.
